When striking a golf ball, titanium golf clubs have as many decibels as a jackhammer on a construction site.  Click here to check out our recent video (WPTV-Channel 5) on this subject, and other videos relating to hearing loss.

Everything you do is so helpful to the general public and awareness is of paramount importance to help others avoid the stigma attached to hearing loss. I know too many people in the denial stage and applaud all your work!

You’ve touched on two critical aspects of the hearing loss issue: stigma and denial. One feeds the other. The stigma against hearing loss is often the reason we stay in denial. Some of us remember Steve Allen and his black-rimmed glasses. In the 50’s,, there was a real stigma against glasses. That old expression: men don’t make passes at girls who wear glasses. i think it had something to do with wearing your ‘defect’ out in the open. In any event, once Steve Allen became a popular icon, we began to see more and more black-rimmed glasses popping up on faces all over the world! Today, just about every rock star on the planet has some form of hearing loss. Smart rock stars wear hearing protection when they perform — it decreases the dangerous decibel level and still allows them to hear the music. For the audience — assaulted by the same decibel level — there are noise-reduction ear plugs available in drug stores or custom made through an audiologist…they run the gamut. Hundreds of celebrities have hearing loss. To help erase the stigma surrounding hearing loss, we are reaching out to celebrities who will serve as role models for the rest of us…much like Steve Allen did with his black-rimmed glasses.
